Carl Drexler and Auguste Nagel (Kodak Retina creator) founded their firm "Dexler & Nagel" in 1908 in Stuttgart, Germany. They produce the same year an ultra-thin folding plate camera they call "Contessa". Given the success of this camera, they renamed their firm "Contessa Camerawerke" in 1909. In 1919 they buy the Nettel firm and renamed again Contessa-Nettel their firm.

In 1926 Ernemann, Goerz, Ica and Contessa Nettel joined the Zeiss Ikon Group (see this mark in the menu). All these cameras make some regrouping and some are  stopped and other continued under other names with some changes...
