The inventor of the Polaroid camera was the American engineer Edwin H. Land.

In 1943, he began research into a process that would produce a stable image directly after the shot.

In 1947 he marketed the Polaroid 95, which produced sepia-toned images. The film in roll 40 is passed between two rollers that burst a capsule and disperse the products evenly on the inside of two sheets that come out of the camera stuck together. After waiting a minute, the two sheets are separated and the positive image and its negative appear.

What followed was a series of improvements in film, film processes and cameras. Black and white in 1950, 3000 ASA film in 1959 for the Polaroid 3000, colour in 1963 with the Polacolor, the SX70 in 1972...
